On 26 January 2026, at the UN Security Council (UNSC) Open Debate, H.E. Mr. Cherdchai Chaivaivid, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations, reiterated Thailand’s unwavering commitment to international law and the principles enshrined in the UN Charter that underpin the rule of law in international relations.

The international rule of law is essential to peace and security, transforming confrontation into dialogue and power into restraint. Accountability is indispensable – violations left unaddressed breed impunity and fuel further conflict. Thailand underscores that international law must apply to all, without exception, and calls for collective commitment to ensure that rules, not might, govern international relations.

Ambassador Chaivaivid urged any State that consistently called on others to respect international law to adhere themselves to it fully and in good faith.
