H.E. Mr. Cherdchai Chaivaivid
Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand
to the United Nations
Prior to his appointment as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations in 2024, Cherdchai Chaivaivid had served as Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs and Thailand’s APEC Senior Official since 2019, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, from 2017-2019, and Director of East Asia Division IV at the Department of East Asian Affairs, from 2012-2017. His previous tenure as diplomatic agent includes Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 1997-2001, and Ottawa, Canada, from 2009-2012.
Cherdchai was born in Bangkok in 1969. He received his primary, middle and high school education from Bangkok Christian College. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Chulalongkorn University and Master of Arts in International Relations from the University of Kent at Canterbury, United Kingdom.
He has been awarded with the Knight Grand Cordon (Special Class) of the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand and the Knight Grand Cross (First Class) of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant.
Cherdchai has a life-long interest in music and is also known for his passion in building scale models of WWII armored vehicles and aircrafts. His other hobbies include reading and cooking.
