At the UNSC Open Debate on “The Safety and Protection of Waterways in the Maritime Domain” chaired by Bahrain on 27 April 2026, H.E. Mr. Cherdchai Chaivaivid, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations, stressed that disruptions in vital maritime chokepoints such as the Strait of Hormuz endanger seafarers, disrupt global energy flows, and threaten economic stability worldwide. Thailand calls on all parties to exercise restraint, uphold international law, and respect freedom of navigation. Thailand supports cooperation, dialogue and diplomacy to ensure that the high seas remain open, secure, and governed by the rule of law.
