On 10 December 2025, during the General Debate under the General Assembly agendaitem 72: “Strengthening of the coordination of humanitarian and disaster relief assistance of the United Nations, including special economic assistance”, Mr. Yuttalid Bunnag, Counsellor, delivered a statement that Thailand was concerned on the growing challenges of humanitarian emergencies, particularly the impact from climate related disasters worldwide, including the devastating flood in Thailand.
The Representative of Thailand reiterated the need to strengthen the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction to build capacities of countries and relevant actors, particularly at a local level, to prepare for and respond to natural hazards. Local actors and local communities should engage in humanitarian programmes to build long-term resilience. Thailand called on all parties to strengthening effectiveness of global humanitarian architecture through improving coordination and scaling up of sustainable finance.
Thailand has its long-standing humanitarian tradition of providing assistance to people crossing from neighboring countries to seek refuge and better livelihood. The country recently implemented a Policy Framework to provide humanitarian assistance for the vulnerable populations along the Thailand-Myanmar border on public health services and education. Thailand regretted to see humanitarian consequences of a conflict situation along our border where indiscriminate weapons like landmines were used and therefore called on all state parties to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (APMBC) to fully adhere to their obligations under the Convention. The representative underscored the importance of the protection of humanitarian personnel and urged all parties to respect and protect medical workers and health facilities. Thailand reiterated its commitment to work constructively with all Member States, UN agencies, and humanitarian partners to address unprecedented humanitarian challenges.
