On 5 June 2025, the Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations in New York, led by Mrs. Netraya Chaivaivid, spouse of Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand, hosted a Thai culinary arts demonstration titled “A Taste of Thailand: Thai Culinary Arts Demonstration” at the Ambassador’s Residence. The event welcomed spouses of UN Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives, prominent members of New York’s social circles, and members of The Colony Club—New York’s first social club founded by women for women.

The highlight of the event was a live cooking demonstration by a celebrated Thai chef, Chef Tam Chudaree Debhakam. Chef Tam presented how to prepare Khanom Pang Na Goong (Thai shrimp toast) and Nam Yum (Thai spicy salad dressing), using locally sourced ingredients. Throughout the demonstration, the audience learned stories behind Thai ingredients, traditional cooking practices, and sustainable culinary values. Participants were invited to experience the aroma and taste of key ingredients and actively interacted with the chef throughout the session.

Thai cuisine remains the country’s strength that captivates the international audience. Gastrodiplomacy plays a vital role in promoting mutual understanding and fostering tangible cultural exchange with the long-standing “Thai Kitchen to the World” initiative championed by Thailand
