On 24 June 2026, Thailand co-sponsored the side event on “Making AI Work for Trustworthy and Inclusive Digital Peacebuilding” during UN Peacebuilding Week 2026 at the Permanent Mission of Norway, together with the Permanent Missions of the Republic of Korea, Norway, Kenya, and South Africa to the United Nations, the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, UN Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office, and Microsoft.

Charge d’Affaires a.i. Pawaree Xuto Chaipatiyut stressed in her closing remarks that AI is a vital tool for peacebuilding but must be guided by human agency and judgment. Humans must remain the steering force in peace processes, with AI in a supporting role. Effective AI solutions must address issues on the ground at the service of local stakeholders. The world needs AI safeguards and governance, including protections for mental health and digital well-being. Many countries urgently need resources to support capacity building, AI literacy, and digital infrastructure to prevent the "risks of exclusion".
