On 23 July 2026, H.E. Mr. Cherdchai Chaivaivid, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations, delivered a statement at the Security Council Open Debate on the Peaceful Settlement of Disputes, convened in follow-up to resolution 2788 (2025).

The Ambassador underscored the urgency of prevention, dialogue and diplomacy at the height of interstate conflicts. He reaffirmed Thailand's support for the tools of Article 33 of the UN Charter, the good offices of the Secretary-General, and ASEAN's consensus-based approach to preventive diplomacy — anchored in the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC), the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), the East Asia Summit (EAS) and the ADMM-Plus — as models for building trust and managing disputes within the region and beyond.

The Ambassador also referred to the statement made by one Member State on the border situation, stressing bilateral dialogue and negotiation in good faith as well as depoliticizing issues at the international level as key to resolving differences between neighboring countries.
