On 13 October 2026, H.E. Mr. Cherdchai Chaivaivid, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations in New York, delivered a statement at the General Debate of the First Committee (Disarmament and International Security) at the 81st Session of the General Assembly.
Thailand emphasized the urgency of implementing confidence-building and transparency measures to de-escalate tensions and reduce the risk of armed conflicts. Thailand also called on all States to uphold international law and fully comply with their obligations to prevent humanitarian consequences and maintain international peace and security. Thailand stands ready to cooperate with all stakeholders across six key areas of disarmament: nuclear weapons, other weapons of mass destruction, conventional weapons, emerging technologies and artificial intelligence in the military domain, cybersecurity, and the prevention of an arms race in outer space.
