On 14 May 2026, Mr. Cherdchai Chaivaivid, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations, received Ms. Rebeca Grynspan of Costa Rica, candidate for the position of United Nations Secretary-General (UNSG), at the Mission.

During the meeting, Ms. Grynspan shared her vision for the future of the United Nations, emphasizing strong support for the Global South and the importance of dialogue and cooperation in addressing global challenges. Ambassador Chaivaivid highlighted Thailand’s distinctive role in the international community, including its position as a major regional hub for UN operations, and shared Thailand’s priorities across security, economic, social, and human rights dimensions.

Ms. Grynspan’s outreach recognizes Thailand’s role as a constructive driver in advancing multilateralism. Commemorating the 80th anniversary of its UN membership this year, Thailand remains committed to a transparent and inclusive UNSG selection process and stands ready to engage with other candidates to ensure that the next UN leader is well attuned to perspectives and priorities of Thailand and ASEAN.
