Thailand Stressed the Importance of Effective Coordination at the Opening Session of the High-level Political Forum for Sustainable Development 2022 (HLPF 2022)

On 5 July 2022 H.E. Dr. Suriya Chindawongse, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations, delivered a statement at the Opening Session of the High-level Political Forum for Sustainable Development 2022 (HLPF 2022) at the General Assembly Hall, United Nations Headquarters in New York, as a Vice President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), who is the chair of the Coordination Segment. The Session was chaired by H.E. Mr. Collen Vixen Kelapile, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Botswana to the United Nations and the Chair of the ECOSOC. Ms. Amina J. Mohamed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, representatives of international organisations, civil society organisation, and youth also delivered statement, as well as a Korean pop band, aespa.

On this occasion, Ambassador Suriya summarized the outcome of the Coordination Segment meeting, convened on 4 February 2022. He stressed key elements as follows:

A ll - All stakeholders are important, all voices should be heard.
E quity & Empowerment - Regain equity and promote empowerment.
S ustainability & Synergy - Achieve transformation changes for accelerated implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
P eople & Planet - Achieve balance in pursuing both people-centred policies and protecting our planet.
A rchitecture - Let all components of the ECOSOC architecture work seamlessly together.
