Message from H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand
at “Recover Better Together” Action Forum
26 June 2020

Mrs. Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations,

Excellencies,
Distinguished Delegates,

It is an honour to join you today at the “Recover Better Together” Action Forum. My sincere appreciation goes to the Deputy Secretary-General for hosting this event. The COVID-19 pandemic is indeed unprecedented for all of us. It is not only a health emergency, but is also creating vast disruption to the global socio-economic landscape. This serious challenge requires our prompt, decisive and collective action.

Excellencies,

Thailand is proud to announce its support for the United Nations Secretary-General’s initiative in launching the COVID-19 Response and Recovery Multi-Partner Trust Fund, and is pleased to pledge a contribution to the amount of 100,000 US Dollars.

I note with appreciation that within only six weeks, the Fund has already released the first round of allocations to support emergency development programmes in 47 countries. I have also learned that the Fund is attracting more contributions from different sources. I am therefore optimistic that more funds will be allocated in a speedy manner that is responsive to the needs of affected countries.

Apart from contributing to this UN COVID-19 Trust Fund, Thailand is also a firm supporter of the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), to which we make an annual contribution of 20,000 US Dollars.

Thailand is also committed to further strengthening regional responses to the COVID-19 situation, for example, through making a financial contribution to the COVID-19 ASEAN Response Fund.

Excellencies,

As a strong believer in a rules-based multilateral system, Thailand will continue to support the UN’s endeavours to reduce the social impacts from, and promote effective responses to, this multi-dimensional global crisis.

We stand ready to continue to work with the UN and the international community for a future of greater health security and socio-economic resilience for our peoples.

Thank you.
